Delta monarch awards full scholarship to Spelling Bee world champion

Chinedu Okediachi, who clinched a gold medal for Nigeria at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup in Shanghai, China, has received a full university scholarship through to the university level from the Asagba of Asaba, Delta State, Epiphany Azinge.

The Nigeria Spelling Bee organization announced the monarch's generous gesture on their Facebook page, expressing gratitude for his commitment to education. They stated that the monarch's support would significantly shape the champion's future and serve as an inspiration to the entire community.

Okediachi, a student at Madonna International College in Asaba, was part of a four-member Team Nigeria that achieved this historic feat in the Middle School Group Category. The team's journey to the global tournament involved qualifying through the Nigeria Spelling Bee and the African Spelling Bee Championship in Harare, Zimbabwe. At the continental qualifiers, other team members also achieved notable success, with Oluwadamilola Adeolu emerging as champion of the Junior category and Abdurrahman Yusuf securing third place.

The Nigeria Spelling Bee highlighted the students' journey as one of excellence and determination, carrying the hopes of the nation and the continent. The achievement at the global tournament further strengthens Nigeria's growing profile in international spelling competitions, with the monarch's scholarship providing a crucial boost to the young champion's academic pursuits.
