Democracy Day: Ooni urges FG to intensify fight against insecurity

On Nigeria's Democracy Day, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, issued a strong call to the Federal Government to escalate its efforts in combating the nation's pervasive insecurity. In a statement released from his palace, the revered traditional ruler highlighted banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities as significant threats to peace and national development.

Oba Ogunwusi emphasized that the safety and security of citizens are non-negotiable foundations for any responsible government and are paramount to achieving national growth and stability. He acknowledged the persistent security challenges across various regions, urging all levels of government to bolster the country's security framework, enhance intelligence gathering capabilities, and ensure security agencies are adequately equipped.

Furthermore, the Ooni called for the diligent prosecution of individuals involved in criminal acts. He stated that democracy flourishes best in an environment of peace, security, and justice. While recognizing the ongoing difficulties, he appealed to Nigerians to maintain patience and continue supporting lawful government initiatives aimed at restoring order.

Beyond security concerns, Oba Ogunwusi also addressed the importance of national unity. He posited that Nigeria's diversity should be a source of strength, not division, and that collective sacrifice and cooperation between leaders and citizens are essential for sustainable development.

As part of the Democracy Day commemoration, the Ooni led prayers for peace, stability, and security throughout Nigeria. He sought divine intervention in overcoming criminal elements and restoring lasting tranquility, while also praying for wisdom for leaders, protection for security personnel, and increased unity, progress, and prosperity for the nation.
