Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared democracy as Nigeria's most potent pathway to national unity and prosperity, asserting its suitability for the country's diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural landscape. In a goodwill message commemorating Nigeria's Democracy Day, Fubara stated that June 12 transcends a mere historical date, symbolizing the ongoing struggle, sacrifice, and collective Nigerian aspiration for freedom, justice, and representative governance.

June 12 is a reminder of the price paid for the democracy we enjoy today. The sacrifices made by Chief MKO Abiola, Kudirat Abiola, and many other patriots who laid the foundation for the democratic journey we continue to enjoy today.

Fubara paid tribute to the heroes of the democratic struggle, particularly Chief MKO Abiola, his wife Kudirat Abiola, and numerous other patriots whose courage and sacrifices paved the way for the democratic freedoms enjoyed today. "June 12 is a reminder of the price paid for the democracy we enjoy today," he said, emphasizing that their commitment to the principle of popular sovereignty continues to inspire Nigerians.

Despite challenges, Nigeria's democratic experiment has evolved over the 33 years since the historic June 12, 1993 election. Fubara noted the resilience of Nigerian institutions and the people's determination in moving the nation forward. He identified the ability to express differing opinions, engage in constructive debate, and peacefully elect leaders as significant national achievements.

He commended President Bola Tinubu's administration for its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly efforts in economic revitalization, security enhancement, and the deepening of democratic institutions.
