Democratic Party dissolves Gornji Milanovac branch amid internal dispute

The Democratic Party's (DS) Executive Board has dissolved the municipal board in Gornji Milanovac, appointing a commissioner after the local board collectively resigned. The resignation stemmed from the board's refusal to participate in the party's internal election process, which they deemed undemocratic.

We do not agree that the list of members is hidden from us for six months after the revision, and that in the meantime the membership has "suddenly tripled," outside the official Board.

Nebojša Gojković, the municipal board president, along with Vice President Ljiljana Jovičić Kacarov and all ten board members, submitted their resignations. They cited dissatisfaction with the election process and alleged that membership had been "suddenly tripled" without the official board's knowledge or consent, leading to an "informal board" taking over responsibilities.

We do not agree that many new members do not know they have become members, and that the Municipal Board has not been informed of such drastic and unrealistic changes.

Igor Gospavić has been appointed as the commissioner for the Gornji Milanovac branch. His tasks include verifying the membership registry, investigating claims of misinformation that harmed the DS, and organizing new elections, scheduled for August 2. This decision follows complaints from eight DS members in the area whose voting rights and candidacies were initially rejected.

We do not agree that there is an informal Board in Milanovac that takes over all the competencies of the only real Board.

The Executive Board acknowledged these complaints, recognizing the voting rights and candidacies of those who appealed. They noted that while a statutory commission was available for appeals, a group of DS members chose to resign instead and publicize their claims. The board stated that the local board's resignation and subsequent media statements contained untruths that damaged the party.
