Democratic Party insists on holding Judiciary Committee chair, open to other negotiations

The Democratic Party of South Korea has firmly stated its intention to secure the chairmanship of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee for the latter half of the 22nd National Assembly. The party's floor spokesperson, Lee Ju-hee, indicated that while they aim to complete the assembly's composition by the third week of June, negotiations with the People Power Party are necessary.

We are of the position that the Legislation and Judiciary Committee must absolutely be held by the Democratic Party in the second half of the term.

Lee explained the party's strong stance on the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, emphasizing its role as a gateway for all legislative bills. "I believe it plays a role in ensuring that various public interest and reform bills that pass each standing committee can quickly undergo appropriateness review and be immediately submitted to the plenary session," Lee stated. The party views this committee as vital for expediting legislative progress, particularly for reform initiatives.

We plan to proceed with the composition of the National Assembly at a rapid pace, and we expect it to be completed around the third week of June.

The party also mentioned ongoing discussions regarding a special prosecutor bill to investigate alleged manipulation of investigations and prosecutions.
