Denmark Invests 750 Million Kroner in European AI Project to Boost Sovereignty

Denmark is committing 750 million Danish kroner over the next five years to a significant European artificial intelligence initiative. The project aims to establish "AI gigafactories" across the continent, designed to provide immense computing power crucial for AI development and deployment.

The primary goal of this European endeavor is to reduce the bloc's dependence on technology and infrastructure from countries outside the EU. By creating its own robust digital infrastructure, Europe seeks to ensure that AI solutions are developed and utilized in alignment with European regulations and values.

"We need our own digital infrastructure that operates according to European rules and can support and boost the development and use of European AI solutions," stated Christina Egelund, Denmark's Minister for Research, Education, and Digitalization. This investment underscores Denmark's commitment to strengthening Europe's technological sovereignty.

Approximately seven AI gigafactories are planned, with private consortia set to manage their establishment and operation. The selection process for these consortia and the locations of the factories is expected later this year. This strategic move positions Europe to become a more independent player in the global AI landscape.
