Denmark's PM calls for increased pressure on Russia after suspected missile incident in Poland

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has issued a strong condemnation of what she described as a violation of Polish airspace, which she believes was caused by a Russian missile. The incident has heightened concerns about European security, particularly given Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine.

"I strongly condemn the Russian attack that has killed civilians in Ukraine and the violation of Polish airspace. Russia's war is a threat to our collective European security," Frederiksen stated in a release shared by the Prime Minister's Office. Her remarks came after Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that an object detected by radar in Poland might have been a Russian missile, though Polish authorities have not yet confirmed the missile's origin.

Poland, a member of NATO, shares borders with Belarus, a close Russian ally, and Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia since 2022. Tusk suggested that the incident was likely not intended to strike Poland directly. The unidentified aircraft reportedly flew westward after appearing on Polish military radar.

Frederiksen reiterated Denmark's unwavering support for both Ukraine and Poland. She stressed the importance of increasing aid to Ukraine and intensifying pressure on Russia. The incident underscores the volatile security situation in Eastern Europe and the potential for spillover effects from the conflict in Ukraine.
