"Denominación de Origen" arrives on streaming: where and when to watch

The Chilean comedy "Denominación de Origen," directed by Tomás Alzamora, is set to debut on the streaming platform Mubi on September 18. This release follows its success in national theaters, where it became the most-watched Chilean film of 2025. The film will be available across Chile and various Latin American territories.

"Denominación de Origen" centers on the residents of San Carlos, who are outraged when the title of the best longaniza (sausage) is awarded to Chillán under questionable circumstances. This perceived injustice sparks a movement among the San Carlos inhabitants to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs. Through this local rivalry, the film uses humor to delve into themes of identity, pride, and the sense of belonging, blending fictional elements with documentary-style portrayals of social and identity conflicts in the Ñuble Region.

Filmed entirely in southern Chile, the production features a cast composed exclusively of natural actors from San Carlos, including Luisa Marabolí, Exequías Inostroza, Roberto Betancourt, and Alexis Marín. The film has garnered critical acclaim, earning the Audience Award for Best Feature Film and the Special Jury Award for Best Feature Film at the 31st Valdivia International Film Festival in 2024. Additionally, Tomás Alzamora was recognized with the Best Director award at the 26th Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI) in 2025.
