Despite Sweltering Heat, Hwang Ki-soon and Park Sang-min Raise 22.1 Million Won With Citizens

Comedian Hwang Ki-soon and singer Park Sang-min collected 22.1 million won with citizens during the 24th Love Plus street fundraiser and donated the money to the Community Chest of Korea.

The fundraiser took place from the 27th to the 30th of last month at Namdaemun in Seoul and Wolmido in Incheon. About 40 entertainers, including singer Kang Jin and performers associated with “Ttaengbeol” and “At Andong Station,” donated their talents through street performances to encourage contributions.

The money will help neighbors in need, including older people requiring knee treatment. It will also support stroller assistance for families with young children and the distribution of coal briquettes during winter.

The fact that we have been able to continue to the 24th edition is thanks to colleagues who shared their talents despite the sweltering weather and citizens who contributed their hearts on the streets.

Love Plus has continued for more than 20 years by combining celebrity performances with public participation. The campaign's cumulative total, including donations made by citizens at Namdaemun and Wolmido, now stands at 765.8 million won.

Hwang began the campaign in 2000, traveling around the country in a wheelchair to collect donations. The first year's proceeds provided 52 wheelchairs to disability organizations. Park has also supported treatment for children with childhood cancer and leukemia, as well as cochlear implant operations for children with hearing impairments. In 2008, he received a ministerial commendation after donating more than 4 billion won over 11 years.

Hwang said the campaign had reached its 24th edition because colleagues shared their talents despite the hot weather and citizens contributed on the streets. He said he would continue sharing with the public as long as he could.
