DFB-Pokal: Borussia Dortmund reach second round after 5-0 win in Hamburg

Borussia Dortmund advanced to the second round of the DFB-Pokal with a 5-0 victory over fifth-tier Hamburg-Eimsbütteler Ballspiel-Club, but Hamburg made the stronger start.

HEBC won two early corners and created two promising attacking moments. Dortmund goalkeeper Jannik Schoon also produced an impressive save from Felix Nmecha’s 11-meter shot in the 25th minute.

The gap between the teams emerged after Janek Wrede turned in Julian Ryerson’s hard cross for an own goal in the 33rd minute. Daniel Svensson added a second three minutes later, and Samuele Inácio scored twice before halftime, including a goal in stoppage time.

The pace dropped after the break, but Fabio Silva added Dortmund’s fifth goal in the 59th minute. Hamburg goalkeeper Nils Ahmann, introduced at halftime, denied Konstantinos Karetsas and later made another strong save against Silva.

The match took place at the Volksparkstadion because of capacity requirements. It had been scheduled separately from the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup between Dortmund and Bayern Munich, and attracted more than 40,000 spectators, a record for a game involving a fifth-tier team.
