Dhaka University forms committee to probe teachers' alleged 'secret activities'

Dhaka University has formed a three-member committee to investigate serious allegations that some of its faculty members are engaged in "secret activities against the state." The university's Public Relations Office announced the formation of the committee, which is tasked with examining these claims and proposing necessary actions.

Chaired by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Abdus Salam, the committee includes Md Mufazzal Hossain, dean of the Faculty of Science, and Muhammad Ekramul Haque, dean of the Faculty of Law. The committee has already commenced its work, according to the university's statement.

The university's action follows recent media reports alleging that 404 teachers from 22 different universities are involved in clandestine operations. These activities reportedly aim to facilitate the return of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and to revive a political party that is currently banned. The reports specifically identified 92 Dhaka University teachers as being part of this alleged network.

While the university has identified 58 of these teachers so far, it has not disclosed their names. The committee will review the cases of these identified individuals and make recommendations. Any additional names that emerge during the investigation will also be examined and addressed accordingly. The university stated that the committee will make necessary recommendations after examining the cases of the identified teachers.
