Dhofar Governorate to Add 424 Kilometers to Road Network in 2026

The Governorate of Dhofar is poised for a significant transformation in its infrastructure, with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology set to deliver a substantial expansion of its road network. By 2026, an additional 424 kilometers of roads will be integrated, marking a qualitative leap in the region's connectivity and mobility.

This ambitious development is part of a broader effort to enhance road network efficiency and facilitate seamless transport for tourism, economic activities, and social interaction across the governorate. The ongoing single-carriageway projects, already exceeding 83% completion, will add 510 kilometers by year-end, with a significant portion of 424 kilometers slated for handover in 2026. This ensures a robust foundation for improved travel.

These projects will help reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow within the city, especially during Khareef Dhofar “monsoon season”.

Furthermore, six dual-carriageway projects are progressing, covering a total of 450 kilometers. These vital routes, representing an investment exceeding OMR370 million, will significantly strengthen inter-wilayat connectivity and bolster the overall efficiency of the transport network. Key projects like the Al Mughsail Road and Bridge Project and the dualization of Raysut–Al Mughsail Road are advancing, with specific sections expected to open by the Khareef Dhofar season, easing traffic congestion and enhancing the visitor experience.

In Al Mazyouna and Maqshin, progress is equally notable. The Harweeb–Al Mazyouna–Maytan Road is ahead of schedule, with full handover anticipated in July 2026. Similarly, the asphalt network project in Maqshin is nearing completion, demonstrating a concerted push across the governorate to modernize its transportation arteries. These developments underscore Dhofar's commitment to progress and its strategic vision for enhanced infrastructure.

The Ministry is currently implementing the Al Mughsail Road and Bridge Project in Salalah, which has achieved a completion rate of 81.6%, with the bridge road expected to be open to traffic by the beginning of Khareef Dhofar season 2026.
