Dhofar road infrastructure gets a boost as new routes are inaugurated

Two road projects spanning about 380 kilometres have been inaugurated in Oman’s Dhofar Governorate, adding new links across Al Mazyunah and Muqshin.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology opened the Harweeb-Mitan Road in the Wilayat of Al Mazyunah and an asphalt road network in the Wilayat of Muqshin. Dhofar Governor Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said said road projects formed a key part of the governorate’s broader development drive and that work would continue to strengthen its network.

The Harweeb-Mitan route connects the centre of Al Mazyunah with its wilayats and extends to the Al Mazyunah land port and Free Zone, as well as the land border crossing with Yemen. Transport Minister Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali said the link could strengthen Al Mazyunah’s role as a commercial and logistics hub by facilitating goods movement and supporting economic activity, investment, tourism and related services.

The governorate is witnessing significant momentum in infrastructure development, with road projects representing a key pillar of comprehensive development efforts.

The project is also intended to support urban expansion, improve road services and safety, and connect population centres with service and economic hubs. The ministry said the work fits Oman Vision 2040 and its plans for a modern road network linking wilayats and governorates.

In Muqshin, the asphalt network connects the wilayat centre with affiliated wilayats and areas. Officials said it would improve access to services and facilities, support administrative and development integration, and connect population centres with production areas. The project is expected to strengthen the wilayat’s urban and economic development potential.
