Diamond League final in Brussels: Ehammer finishes third

Simon Ehammer missed out on a third Diamond Trophy, finishing third in the long jump at the Diamond League final in Brussels.

The Swiss athlete saved his best effort for his sixth and final attempt. Ehammer jumped 8.23 meters, slightly improving on his marks in Zurich and Lausanne, where he reached 8.14 and 8.13 meters respectively. The result remained six centimeters short of his silver-medal distance at the European Championships in Birmingham.

Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle won with 8.46 meters. The 2019 world champion in Doha and silver medalist at last year’s World Championships in Tokyo had already claimed the Diamond Trophy in Brussels in 2024. Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou took second with 8.40 meters. Tentoglou had won four Diamond League events this season and became European champion in Birmingham.

Ehammer said in an interview with SRF that he was very satisfied with his performance given the difficult wind conditions. “It feels good that I managed another jump over 8.20,” he said. He added that he felt ready for next week’s World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, where the winner will receive $150,000.
