DiamondHeart Opens Nominations for 2026 Humanitarian Service Awards

DiamondHeart Initiatives Ltd/GTE has launched nominations for the 2026 Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards, an annual event designed to honor those making significant contributions to humanitarian service, philanthropy, and leadership in Nigeria and beyond. The awards coincide with World Humanitarian Day, celebrated on August 19.

The 2026 edition carries the theme "Diamonds of Humanity: Celebrating the Power of Service and Transformational Leadership." A key sub-theme, "2027: Inspiring Citizens to Elect Leaders of Character, Service, and Transformational Vision," highlights the organizers' focus on the upcoming Nigerian general elections. Keynote speakers, including a former Vice-Chancellor and a Secretary-General, are expected to discuss humanitarian leadership, ethical governance, and the importance of electing leaders with integrity.

Comrade Ikechukwu Norbert, Executive Director of DiamondHeart Initiatives, emphasized that the awards are more than a ceremony. "The Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards is more than an awards ceremony. It is a national platform for celebrating compassion, integrity, sacrifice and transformational leadership," he stated. Norbert stressed the need to support leaders whose lives exemplify service to humanity, asserting that leadership should be defined by character and a commitment to improving lives, not just ambition.

The awards will recognize impactful work in various sectors, including humanitarian service, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, climate action, and social justice. Nominations are open to a wide range of individuals and organizations, including public office holders, NGOs, corporate bodies, and media professionals. The nomination period runs from June 8 to July 12, 2026, accepting both self-nominations and third-party submissions.
