Different visions: Visit Berlin chief to leave after just three months

Jürgen Amann is leaving Visit Berlin after only three months as managing director, following reported disagreements over how the tourism agency should move forward.

The Tagesspiegel reported that Amann and the state had different views about Visit Berlin’s future. Some people also reportedly considered the working atmosphere under his leadership problematic. Sources familiar with the matter confirmed the report to the German Press Agency.

According to the report, Amann and Visit Berlin signed an agreement to end his contract. The Tagesspiegel said he would receive severance equivalent to two months’ salary.

Amann had led the agency since June alongside Sabine Wendt. He succeeded Burkhard Kieker, who shaped Visit Berlin’s direction for 17 years. Before moving from the Rhine to the Spree, Amann ran KölnTourismus for more than six years.

Visit Berlin could not initially be reached for comment, while Berlin’s Senate Department for Economic Affairs declined to comment. The agency’s supervisory board is scheduled to meet next Tuesday, according to the Tagesspiegel.
