Digital Educational Atlas of Oman launched at GeoAdvances 2026 conference

The Digital Educational Atlas of Oman was launched as the 11th International Conference on Geo-Advances in Geographic Information opened at the University of Dhofar in Salalah.

The two-day conference, held in Dhofar Governorate, is organized by Oman’s Ministry of Education in cooperation with the University of Technology Malaysia and the University of Dhofar. Researchers and specialists from Oman and abroad are taking part.

Dr. Suleiman Abdullah Al Jamoudi, the Ministry of Education’s director-general for vocational and technical education and deputy chairman of the organizing committee, said the event includes 71 scientific contributions. They comprise 46 oral papers and 25 research posters. Seven keynote speakers delivered six keynote lectures, while 20 government, private-sector and academic institutions are participating across 12 parallel scientific tracks.

Omani participants account for 40 contributions, including 22 scientific papers and 18 research posters. Al Jamoudi said hosting the conference has scientific and institutional value because it supports specialized dialogue, the exchange of expertise and wider cooperation among academic, research and professional institutions.

He also outlined the ministry’s efforts to follow developments in geographic information and strengthen the use of geographic information systems and modern technologies in curriculum development, particularly in social studies. The ministry has also developed related digital initiatives through the Modern Geographic Technologies Committee and its programs.

Prof. Elias Abdul Rahman, speaking for the University of Technology Malaysia, highlighted cooperation with Omani institutions in geographic information and geospatial technologies. He stressed the importance of applying modern innovations and connecting scientific knowledge with practical use. The newly launched atlas brings geography, history and digital learning together in one platform.
