Discarded Rice Cooker Yields 25 Don of Gold; Security Guard Returns Mother's Keepsakes

A security guard's honesty has led to the recovery of a deceased woman's cherished mementos. While sorting recyclables at a waste disposal site in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, the guard discovered a significant amount of gold hidden inside an abandoned electric rice cooker. The haul consisted of 25 don of gold, valued at approximately 20 million won (about $14,000 USD). The gold was later identified as belonging to a woman who had recently passed away. Believing the gold to be her mother's keepsake, the woman had apparently hidden it in the rice cooker for safekeeping. The security guard, upon finding the valuable items, promptly took them to a police station. Authorities were able to trace the ownership using CCTV footage and other evidence, ultimately returning the gold to the grieving family. The National Police Agency released CCTV footage of the incident, highlighting the guard's integrity and the heartwarming reunion of the family with their mother's treasured possessions.
