Disney World Unveils 2027 Expansion Plans with New Themed Lands and Attractions

Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, is set to unveil a series of new attractions and themed areas in 2027, continuing its tradition of constant reinvention. Executives recently announced updates that will enhance the guest experience across its parks.

Magic Kingdom will welcome two new themed lands. Piston Peak, inspired by the "Cars" franchise, will feature attractions such as Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along, with animatronics, and Cars Ridge Run Rally, a ride through snowy peaks and geysers. Adjacent to this will be Villains Land, a darker, more sinister area dedicated to Disney antagonists. This land will include a Maleficent roller coaster winding through a mountain fortress and an enchanted bramble patch, as well as a dark ride guided by the Magic Mirror featuring various villains.

Updates are also planned for other parks. The Carousel of Progress will be remodeled to include a new scene and the first audio-animatronic figure developed at Disney World. At EPCOT, the iconic Spaceship Earth will undergo renovations by Disney Imagineers, and the Imagination! pavilion's "Journey into Imagination with Figment" dark ride will introduce a new adventure with Figment and his friend Dreamfinder.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is preparing to open Monstropolis, a "Monsters University"-themed area, in 2027. It will feature a new show, "Welcome to Monstropolis," hosted by Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan, along with the Scareporium shop and themed restaurants. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also slated for significant updates, including the repair of its iconic, previously malfunctioning, Yeti audio-animatronic figure.
