Disregard for Constitution Fuels Political Instability in Nigeria, Says DLA Chair

Samuel Memeh, the national chairman of the newly formed Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), has identified intolerance by the Federal Government and a disregard for constitutional principles within political parties as key factors contributing to instability. Speaking during an official visit to the DLA's Osun State chapter, Memeh asserted that his party is committed to operating strictly in accordance with the constitution.

The DLA's vision, according to Memeh, is to foster a Nigeria where the government genuinely serves its people. The party was established to offer Nigerians a viable alternative, built on principles of competent leadership, integrity, accountability, innovation, economic productivity, and governance that prioritizes citizens. Memeh emphasized that Nigeria's primary challenge is not a lack of resources but a deficit of purposeful leadership, and the DLA's mission is to cultivate leaders with the necessary competence, character, and courage to drive national transformation.

Memeh further elaborated that the current government exhibits intolerance towards other political parties. He also pointed to internal constitutional deviations within various parties, often initiated by their leadership, which create grounds for legal challenges. This internal strife, he suggested, is a significant source of political party instability across the country.

Regarding the upcoming Osun governorship election, Memeh confirmed that the DLA will not be fielding its own candidate. However, he indicated that the party will deliberate and decide on which candidate to support at an appropriate time. He urged the people of Osun State to maintain peace throughout the electoral process and to exercise their voting rights responsibly. Tosin Odeyemi, the acting Osun State chairman of the DLA, previously the Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, expressed the party members' readiness to strengthen its structures across all wards in the state.
