Doctor's Suspected Suicide Under Investigation After Alleged Intimidation by DPRD Members in East Nusa Tenggara

A doctor in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, allegedly died by suicide due to severe depression after being intimidated by members of the local DPRD. The doctor, Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, known as Dokter Icha, reportedly faced intimidation while treating a child bitten by a snake at the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital.

Two individuals, who identified themselves as members of the Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) DPRD, allegedly confronted Icha in the emergency room, speaking in harsh tones. One of them was reportedly the uncle of the snakebite victim. The doctor's uncle, Victor Manbait, stated that Icha remained fearful and psychologically distressed after the incident.

According to family spokesperson Fabianus Banase, witnesses at the scene reported that the two DPRD members smelled of alcohol. The family also received photographic evidence of the incident. The TTU Police have begun an investigation, although the family has not yet filed a formal report. Police Chief AKBP Eliana Papote confirmed that colleagues of the doctor present during the alleged intimidation are being questioned, and the three DPRD members are scheduled for interviews.

The Ministry of Health has also launched a comprehensive investigation into the alleged intimidation. The Ministry's Head of Communication and Public Information, Aji Muhawarman, stated that the Directorate General of Health Human Resources and Inspection is involved.
