Doctorate after 8 years: Bao Xiaobai's graduation features AI 'appearance' of late daughter

Bao Xiaobai, a veteran of the entertainment industry for four decades, has earned a doctorate in management from National Taipei University of Technology.

At his commencement ceremony on June 13th, Bao was joined by his brothers, Bao Weiming and Bao Xiaosong, and his former protégés, the singing duo "Honey Michelle," who came to offer their congratulations. Notably, Bao wore the honor sash of his late daughter, Bao Rong, to the ceremony.

Using AI technology, Bao Xiaobai brought a digital representation of his daughter, Bao Rong, to the event. The AI recreated her appearance and voice from before her passing in 2021 due to a rare disease. In the video, the "digital daughter" appeared in academic attire, offering congratulations in both Mandarin and English, wishing her father a happy graduation and expressing pride.

Bao Xiaobai, who had completed his master's degree in 2018, pursued his doctorate after encouragement from his professors, securing one of only three available spots. He initially aimed to finish within seven years but successfully completed his studies in his eighth year.

Reflecting on his journey, Bao Xiaobai emphasized the importance of proactive living. He advised graduates: "When you don't lack money, save money; when you are not sick, take care of your health; when your relationship is stable, improve yourself." He stressed that true growth comes from overcoming challenges and that while technology enhances efficiency, it is love that gives the world warmth.
