Dodgers closer Díaz returns from injury list

The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially activated their star closer, Edwin Díaz, from the 60-day injured list. Díaz has been sidelined for approximately three months following elbow surgery, marking a significant return for the team's bullpen.

Díaz's journey back to the mound has been arduous. He began the season with a substantial three-year, $69 million contract with the Dodgers. However, his initial appearances were cut short due to injury. In just 7 games and 6 innings pitched, he recorded a 1-4 record with 4 saves and a high 10.50 ERA before undergoing surgery.

To prepare for his return, Díaz underwent a rigorous rehabilitation process. He began live batting practice sessions in early July and subsequently pitched in 7 minor league games over the past two weeks. During this period, he showed promising signs, striking out 11 batters while issuing only 2 walks, and posting a 3.18 ERA.

Speaking before the game against the Mariners, Díaz expressed confidence in his condition, stating he feels good and is ready to pitch. His activation necessitated a roster move, with the Dodgers designating Charlie Barnes for assignment to make space for Díaz.
