Dodgers star pitcher Wrobleski lands on injured list with forearm inflammation

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed star left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski on the 15-day injured list, citing left forearm inflammation. The team recalled relief pitcher Kyle Hurt to fill the vacant spot on the roster.

Wrobleski, 26, has been enjoying a career year in his third MLB season. He has recorded 11 wins against 5 losses with a 3.56 ERA over 126.1 innings pitched, striking out 100 batters. His WHIP stands at 1.10, and his fastball averages 94.5 mph. Notably, his walk percentage is a career-best 5.4%, placing him in the top tier of pitchers.

While Wrobleski dominated the first half of the season with 10 wins and a stellar 2.69 ERA, earning him his first All-Star selection, his performance has dipped considerably since. In his last five starts, his ERA has ballooned to 6.92, and he has surrendered 11 home runs, three more than in the first half.

Despite the loss of a key starter, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts remains optimistic about Wrobleski's return. "He'll be back soon," Roberts stated after the game. The team's rotation remains strong, featuring pitchers like Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tarik Skubal, Blake Snell, Eric Lauer, and Hiroki Kuroda. If all starters remain healthy, Wrobleski might transition to a relief role in the postseason.

Hurt, who was optioned to Triple-A on August 11, made an immediate appearance upon his return. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on one hit, with three strikeouts and one walk. This season, Hurt has appeared in 38 games, accumulating 49 strikeouts over 39.2 innings, with a record of 3-1, 9 holds, and 1 save, and a 4.31 ERA.
