Dolly Parton's Posthumous Projects: Music, Musicals, and Biopics Planned

Dolly Parton's legacy will continue to resonate long after her passing at the age of 80. The country music superstar, who died on August 25, has ensured her voice will be heard for decades, with a specially recorded song set to be released in 2046.

Parton revealed in interviews in 2022 that she had buried a secret song, "My Place in History," in a time capsule at her Dollywood theme park in Tennessee. This capsule is scheduled to be opened on her 100th birthday in 2046.

"I don't know what they'll do with it, but I've had regrets, because it was a really good song!" Parton joked on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, expressing a playful desire to unearth it. She also voiced concerns about the song potentially deteriorating before it could be heard, telling Kelly Clarkson, "I think it's probably going to disintegrate and nobody's ever going to hear it, that's what bothers me, if it rots in there before we open it."

Beyond this unique time capsule, Parton indicated in 2019 that she had written "hundreds, even thousands of songs," many of which remain unrecorded. This vast catalog offers potential for future compilations and original releases. She explained her process of preparing songs with a rhythm track and vocal, allowing for any arrangement, envisioning her music lasting eternally. "I'm one of those people who likes to plan ahead," she stated.

Furthermore, Parton's passing will not halt the production of "Dolly: A True Original Musical" on Broadway. The musical, inspired by her life and career, is confirmed to proceed, with previews set to begin on December 7 at the St. James Theatre in New York, as per her wishes.
