Dominican Republic Awards 1,500 International Scholarships, Prioritizing STEM and Administration

The Dominican Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt) has awarded 1,500 international scholarships, with a strong emphasis on administration, engineering, and technology. Administration leads with 251 scholarships, followed by engineering with 229 and computer science with 219.

This initiative aligns with the government's strategy to enhance innovation and competitiveness, dedicating 70% of the international scholarships to STEM fields. A total of 1,045 scholarships are for strategic areas like artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and various health specialties.

Manufacturers that have invested millions of dollars in gas-powered electricity generation should not be paying as much as $8.70 per thousand standard cubic feet of gas. Domestic manufacturers should have access to gas at significantly lower rates, around $3.50 per thousand standard cubic feet, to reduce production costs and improve competitiveness.

Notably, women represent 56% of the scholarship recipients, with 837 females and 663 males. The majority of the programs, 64%, will be pursued virtually, while 26% are in-person and 9% are hybrid. The ministry plans to monitor the students' progress abroad.
