Dominican Republic Issues Green Alert for Eight Provinces Amid Weather Warnings

The Dominican Republic's Center for Emergency Operations (COE) has placed eight provinces and the National District under a green alert as a tropical wave approaches, threatening to bring significant rainfall and severe weather across the country. The alert signals a precautionary measure as meteorological conditions are expected to deteriorate.

Provinces under the green alert include San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, La Romana, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, Monseñor Nouel, and San José de Ocoa. The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) forecasts that a tropical wave situated in the southwestern Caribbean will increase moisture and atmospheric instability over the Dominican territory.

Residents in areas prone to flooding, particularly those living near rivers and streams, are urged to remain vigilant for potential water level rises and to implement necessary safety measures. The COE specifically advises against crossing swollen rivers and using recreational water areas within the affected provinces. The alert also extends to maritime activities, with operators of small and medium-sized vessels cautioned to stay in port along the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts due to abnormal winds and dangerous seas.

Authorities are emphasizing the importance of heeding guidance from civil protection agencies, including the National Civil Defense, Armed Forces, Red Cross, National Police, and fire departments. Emergency contact numbers have been provided for reporting and addressing urgent situations.
