Dominican Republic President Inaugurates New School Sports Facility

President Luis Abinader, accompanied by the First Lady Raquel Arbaje, officially opened a new roofed sports complex at the Centro Educacional Santo Cura de Ars (Cesca) in the Capotillo sector of Santo Domingo. The project, a significant investment of RD$30 million, was completed by the National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi).

When we arrived in government, Capotillo had no roofed facility. This is the second roofed facility we are inaugurating in Capotillo.

This new infrastructure is set to directly benefit around 1,500 students who attend classes in morning and afternoon shifts. Beyond its primary function for sports, the facility is envisioned as a central hub for community activities, including graduations, teacher meetings, celebrations, and other gatherings, fostering greater integration among residents.

Inefi's executive director, Alberto Rodríguez, emphasized the project's importance, stating that the goal of the school sports facility program is to provide dignified spaces in underserved communities. He noted that Capotillo previously lacked such a facility, and this marks the second one inaugurated in the area, highlighting its symbolic significance in a key part of the capital.

We are very proud to deliver this work, not only to the educational system but also to the community. This becomes a balm for the youth of here.

Rodríguez expressed pride in delivering the project, calling it a "balm for the youth of this area." He explained that the initiative was driven by existing relationships with the school and presidential directives to prioritize such improvements in sensitive urban areas. The construction transformed a previously open field into a fully equipped space for sports and community events.

It's 30 million pesos. There was nothing here, it was just a court. The efforts were made because we already had a relationship with the school, in addition to the president's instructions that in schools like this, in sensitive areas of the city, we must bring the roofed facility.
