Dr Dhundiraj Paudel appointed Nepal Medical Council chairperson

Senior otolaryngologist Dr. Dhundiraj Paudel has been appointed the new chairperson of the Nepal Medical Council. Health and Food Safety Minister Nisha Mehta officially appointed Dr. Paudel to the position on Wednesday. Dr. Paudel brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the chairperson of the Bharatpur Hospital Development Committee.

During his tenure at Bharatpur Hospital, Dr. Paudel championed the development of the institution into a teaching hospital capable of providing medical education. He also advocated for its growth into an independent entity, modeled after the National Academy of Medical Sciences, with its own legal foundation rather than relying on other institutions.

Dr. Paudel has consistently voiced his commitment to improving health services, enhancing the management of government hospitals, and strengthening medical education. His focus has been on bolstering the capacity of public hospitals and ensuring more effective healthcare delivery. As the new chairperson of the Nepal Medical Council, he will now oversee crucial areas such as the regulation of the medical profession, professional conduct among doctors, and matters pertaining to medical education.
