Dragon Boat Festival Travel Alert: Six Major Intersections on Taiwan's Highway 61 in Miaoli to Close

Travelers heading to or from Miaoli County during the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival holiday should be aware of significant traffic disruptions on Provincial Highway 61. The Directorate General of Highways' Central Region Office has announced the closure of six major intersections along this coastal route to manage anticipated heavy traffic.

To alleviate congestion, the National Freeway Bureau will close the northbound ramps of the National Freeway No. 3 Xibin Interchange daily from noon to 9 p.m. on June 20 and 21. Travelers intending to use the freeway should proceed north to the Xiangshan Interchange. Those heading to coastal areas should continue straight on Highway 61.

Furthermore, the Central Region Office will close six at-grade intersections on Highway 61 in Miaoli County. Specifically, the intersection at kilometer 94.2 (Zhunan Landfill intersection) will be closed daily from June 19 to 21, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Five other intersections, Lengshuikeng, Fuxing Road (km 91.25), Zhongmei Village (km 92.33), Baofu Road (km 92.9), and km 101.3, will be closed daily from noon to 9 p.m. on June 20 and 21.

During the closures, traffic cones and barriers will separate fast and slow lanes at the intersections. Signalized intersections will operate on a flashing mode, allowing main-line traffic to proceed without interruption. Side roads will be accessible via service roads during the closure periods. The highway authority urges drivers needing to cross Highway 61 at these closed intersections to seek alternative routes beforehand.
