Drama in New York: Williams sisters lose from 5-0 lead as two Hungarians advance

Fanny Stollár and Asia Muhammad secured a three-set victory at the US Open, ensuring another Hungarian interest in the women's doubles second round. The 16th-seeded pair defeated Alycia Parks and Irina Simanovich 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Stollár and Muhammad took the opening set 6-4, but the American-Belarusian duo responded by winning the second 6-2. The Hungarian-American partnership regained control in the decider and closed out the match after one hour and 52 minutes.

They will next face Slovenia's Andreja Klepač and Japan's Eri Hozumi. Anna Bondár had already advanced with Ukrainian partner Angelina Kalinina, who beat Alina Korneeva and Darja Vidmanova 7-5, 6-4.

The first-round results also brought a dramatic end to Serena and Venus Williams' tournament. Hao-Ching Chan and Maya Joint defeated the American sisters 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (10-7).
