Drinking water: District lifts boil-water advisory in some communities

Märkisch-Oderland district has lifted its boil-water recommendation in several communities after new tests found no further exceedances for coliform bacteria.

The affected locations include Werbig, Neuwerbig, Altlangsow and Zechin. The warning remains in force in other communities, including Küstrin-Kietz, Podelzig, Alt Tucheband and Hackenow.

The district issued the advisory several days ago after coliform bacteria were detected in the drinking-water network. The bacteria do not necessarily mean that pathogens are present, but they can indicate possible microbiological contamination. They can also cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea.

The health office continues to recommend using boiled tap water for drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth, cleaning open wounds and contact with mucous membranes. Older people, infants, children and pregnant women should not shower. Authorities are investigating the cause, and the water supplier has begun extensive flushing of the network.
