Driver arrested after truck crashes into bus, injures PoS operator

A truck driver has been arrested in Lagos after his 40-foot containerized articulated vehicle lost control and crashed into a commercial minibus and roadside shops at Second Rainbow, inward Oshodi. The incident occurred along the service lane adjacent to the Police Tactical Team Station, causing panic and injuring a female Point of Sale operator.

The harrowing incident was caused by loss of control of the articulated Mark 40-foot truck while in transit.

Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), stated that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while in transit. This loss of control caused the truck to overturn onto a commercial shuttle bus before crashing into nearby roadside businesses. The articulated truck was reportedly conveying a fully loaded 40-foot container and veered off its designated path.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the female POS operator sustained severe injuries to both legs. Officers from the Police Tactical Team, stationed nearby, rescued the victim and transported her to a medical facility for urgent treatment. The incident caused critical trauma and panic within the vicinity.

The driver lost total control of the massive vehicle, causing the truck to overturn violently onto a commercial mini shuttle bus while simultaneously ploughing into adjoining roadside commercial outlets within the corridor.

LASTMA operatives responded to the scene to manage traffic and coordinate rescue and recovery efforts in collaboration with security agencies and emergency responders. The truck driver was apprehended by LASTMA personnel and subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and potential prosecution. A recovery tow truck was deployed to remove the overturned vehicle and the damaged minibus from the road to restore normalcy.
