Driver Arrested for Fatally Hitting Elementary Student After Running Red Light

Police have arrested a man in his 60s on charges of vehicular homicide after he struck and killed an elementary school student while running a red light in Seoul's Gangdong-gu district.

The suspect, identified only as 'A', was driving through an intersection on the evening of July 5th when he violated the signal and collided with the young student. The child was reportedly crossing the street on a bicycle at the time of the accident.

Emergency services transported the student to a hospital, but the child succumbed to their injuries. Investigations by the police have confirmed that 'A' showed no signs of intoxication from alcohol or drug use.

The arrest warrant for 'A' was issued on July 21st, and the court approved it the following day. Police are continuing their investigation and plan to transfer the case to prosecutors soon. Notably, the accident did not occur in a school zone but on a regular road.
