Driver charged after hitting and killing ninth-grader

Authorities in Dak Lak province have charged a truck driver with violating road traffic regulations, leading to the death of a 15-year-old student. The driver, identified as Do Dinh Chanh, 29, faces charges related to the incident that occurred on May 27.

The accident happened around 9:15 a.m. on Ho Chi Minh Road. Chanh was driving his truck and attempted to overtake a line of vehicles. He signaled and honked before swerving into the oncoming lane. In that lane, a smaller truck was parked, and a motorcycle ridden by Tống Viết Tình was approaching.

Faced with Chanh's truck encroaching on his lane, Tinh stopped his motorcycle beside the parked truck. At that moment, the victim, identified only as T.T.H.N., a ninth-grade student, was riding her electric bicycle behind Tinh's motorcycle. She was unable to react in time and fell into the path of Chanh's truck, which ran over her, causing fatal injuries. Chanh subsequently reported the incident to the police.
