Driver missing after car overturns in Penghu; police seek owner

An overturned passenger car on County Highway 203 in Penghu County late Tuesday night presented a puzzling scene for authorities, as the vehicle was discovered completely empty.

Responding to a report of the accident, police arrived at the location on the 19.1-kilometer mark of County Highway 203, near Houliao, to find the car on its side. Initial investigations revealed no occupants inside the vehicle. The car had reportedly been traveling from Houliao towards Tongliang when it lost control, scraped a roadside street lamp, and overturned.

Authorities used the license plate to trace the vehicle's owner. However, when police visited the owner's home, family members stated that the owner was not present. Despite the owner's absence, the car was removed from the scene by a crane early Wednesday morning, adding to the mystery.

Police are urging the owner to come forward to explain the circumstances of the accident and their reason for leaving the scene. Failure to do so could result in charges of hit-and-run. The incident remains under investigation as authorities attempt to piece together what happened and identify the driver.
