Driver on Drugs Played 'Russian Roulette' Before Killing Girl, Judge Says

A Victorian judge has stated that a man high on drugs played "Russian roulette" when he caused a fatal crash that killed 12-year-old Mia Rossiter. Jordan Kenyon, 30, who had a significant criminal driving record and was on parole, collided with a car carrying a family of four. The crash occurred on January 3, 2024, near Geelong, Victoria. Mia Rossiter died at the scene, while her parents and younger sister sustained serious injuries. County Court judge Michael Tinney characterized Kenyon's decision to drive after consuming GHB as akin to playing "Russian roulette." He added that it was only a matter of time before Kenyon killed someone, and the Rossiter family "had the unlucky ticket." Kenyon has a history of dangerous driving, including a 2019 jail sentence for a high-speed spree in a stolen car. He was released on parole in mid-2023 and was wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet. Judge Tinney indicated that questions would be asked about why Kenyon was not returned to prison before the fatal incident, given his dangerous behavior in the weeks prior. Phone footage shown in court depicted Kenyon driving on the wrong side of the road with his legs up, holding a can of bourbon, and boasting about his "drunk driving." He also made comments about potentially killing other drivers and crashing into a pole. On the day of the fatal crash, Kenyon had taken GHB and was reportedly doing burnouts before losing control at high speed and colliding with the Rossiter family's vehicle. Mia's father, Paul Rossiter, described his daughter as "bright, loyal and loved her animals," and continues to require walking aids due to his injuries. If he wants to play Russian Roulette he should do it in a room on his own, not that I recommend that. It was a matter of time before he killed someone and the Rossiters had the unlucky ticket. It could have been any one of us.
