Driver Who Hit 10 Cars and a Police Officer Arrested After Four Live Rounds Fired

A man in his 30s was arrested in Daegu after allegedly driving into 10 vehicles and a police officer while fleeing a suspected drunk-driving investigation. Police fired four live rounds and used a Taser to stop him.

Daegu Gangbuk Police Station said on June 2 that it was investigating the man on suspicion of special obstruction of official duties and refusing a sobriety test under the Road Traffic Act. He allegedly drove a Mercedes through about 20 kilometers from central Daegu toward the city’s northern district as repeated reports of suspected drunk driving reached police.

At 2:03 a.m., shortly before passing the Gukwoo Tunnel in Buk-gu, the driver reportedly argued with another motorist traveling in the same direction and was involved in a collision. He then allegedly drove away. Police officers responding to the reports pursued him and blocked the road near a villa in Eumnae-dong with patrol cars, ordering him to get out.

Instead, he allegedly tried to escape again, striking eight parked vehicles and one patrol car in succession. Including the vehicle involved in the initial collision, the total number of damaged vehicles was 10. One police officer was also hit during the incident.
