Drivers 'miraculously' escape unharmed from fiery Hume Highway truck explosions

In what authorities are calling a "miracle," six truck drivers narrowly escaped serious injury after a catastrophic crash involving multiple semi-trailers ignited a massive fire and series of explosions on the Hume Highway in New South Wales. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning near Breadalbane when two trucks reportedly collided while entering a roadside rest stop, subsequently crashing into four other parked rigs.

One of the trucks was carrying eight tonnes of butane cans, which fueled multiple small explosions upon the arrival of fire crews. The inferno was further intensified by other trucks carrying alcohol, resin, and memory foam. Fire and Rescue NSW deployed significant resources, including seven fire trucks and hazardous materials vehicles, to combat the blaze, which has since been extinguished.

Emergency services were confronted with a fairly horrific scene this morning and due to the smoke and the flames, we weren’t able to get close enough, however, we’ve just confirmed now six trucks, and we do have six drivers with us as well.

Acting Inspector Vladimir Mijok stated that emergency services were met with a "fairly horrific scene." He emphasized the extraordinary outcome: "It is nothing short of a miracle that all six drivers managed to make it out and none of them with serious injuries either." The drivers were treated for minor injuries by paramedics, with two taken to Goulburn hospital for mandatory testing. The Hume Highway remained closed for an extended period due to the extensive debris and potential hazardous materials, with police establishing a crime scene to aid their investigation.
