Drone crash in Ben-Gvir's neighborhood determined to be local youth, not attack

A drone was discovered on Saturday evening in the Givat HaAvot neighborhood of Kiryat Arba, near Hebron, in proximity to the residence of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recovered the drone for examination, and no injuries were reported.

A military source clarified that the drone was small and located within Ben-Gvir's neighborhood, but not directly near his home. Subsequent reports from KAN suggested that the drone belonged to a youth residing in the neighborhood and had fallen on Friday, indicating it was not an attack.

This incident occurs amidst ongoing security concerns. In September, the Shin Bet and Israel Police revealed an alleged plot by a cell of Hebron residents to assassinate Ben-Gvir using explosive drones, reportedly funded by Hamas headquarters in Turkey. The suspects were motivated by the war in Gaza, according to their statements to investigators.

The investigation into the alleged assassination plot detailed that the three suspects initially planned to target Ben-Gvir during a visit to Hebron's Cave of the Patriarchs. They monitored his social media and identified a potential window during the Jewish High Holidays. The plan involved using two purchased drones, equipped with explosives, and a laptop costing approximately $2,000. The suspects allegedly had a clear division of responsibilities and engaged in advance planning to target Ben-Gvir and Israeli government institutions.
