Drone Explosions in Antioquia Clashes Kill Three, Destroy Homes

Fighting between the Gulf Clan and FARC dissidents in Briceño, Antioquia, has resulted in three deaths and significant property damage. The clashes, which began on August 1, occurred in the Cucaracho village, with one fatality from the Gulf Clan and two from the opposing dissident group. The conflict is fueled by disputes over drug and arms trafficking routes in a region where FARC dissident fronts 5 and 36, led by 'Primo Gay' under 'Calarcá,' operate. These groups also contend with a weakened front 18, which experienced an internal division. The situation has escalated with drone-launched explosives causing damage to rural homes, leading to the forced displacement of families. While no injuries have been reported, over a hundred explosives have been detonated in the area. The public order situation in Briceño has been critical for months, marked by attacks during Holy Week 2026 on a medical mission and police. Authorities are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man and a bombing incident in the town. A woman was also reportedly injured by armed groups in the Guarimal El Hoyo village during the same period. The Tribunal of Antioquia previously ordered the government to implement protective measures for Briceño.
