Texas educational authorities are evaluating a novel drone system developed by a U.S. Army veteran, intended to enhance school safety and respond to potential shootings. The technology, from the startup Campus Guardian Angel, is designed to act as a deterrent against attackers and can also transport essential medical supplies quickly to those in need.

The system underwent testing during the past winter break, with participation from law enforcement agencies including police, sheriffs, state troopers, and federal officials. Campus Guardian Angel claims its devices are an effective tool for dissuading assailants and hopes for widespread adoption in educational institutions.

According to the developers, the drones are stored in secure, wireless charging boxes distributed across school campuses, ensuring they are ready for immediate deployment in emergencies. The company proposes a monthly subscription fee of eight dollars per student, though no contracts have been finalized yet.

One of the system's creators is Bill King, a U.S. Navy SEAL veteran with approximately 32 years of service. His background includes leading elite units and high-level tactical teams within the SEALs, and he previously served as a Senior Enlisted Leader. In his current role as Chief Tactical Officer at Campus Guardian Angel, King focuses on the tactical application and development of the drone system.
