Drug Trafficking Ring Between Spain and Southern France Dismantled; Officer Injured

French authorities have dismantled a significant drug trafficking network that operated between Spain and the south of France, leading to the indictment and jailing of four individuals. The operation, which supplied drugs to cities like Nice and Aix-en-Provence, was brought to light through a police investigation initiated in April.

The investigation started after law enforcement received information about a resident of Perpignan, in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, participating in the trafficking. Investigators subsequently uncovered evidence of regular drug convoys moving between Spain, Nice, and Aix-en-Provence. The Perpignan resident is accused of coordinating these shipments alongside three other suspects.

A critical incident occurred on July 30th when investigators, monitoring an imminent convoy near Banyuls-sur-Mer in the Pyrénées-Orientales, attempted to intercept a suspect vehicle. The driver of the vehicle deliberately rammed into police officers, injuring one of them. This violent encounter underscores the risks faced by law enforcement in combating organized crime.

The suspects allegedly transported substantial quantities of drugs, with potential earnings of up to 3,000 euros per trip. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to fully dismantle the network and understand the full scope of its operations.
