Drunk Driver Arrested for Sleeping in SUV on Kaohsiung Highway Fast Lane

A man was arrested in Kaohsiung for parking his red SUV in a highway's fast lane late at night, causing alarm among other drivers. Police responded to a report of the stationary vehicle on Zhongshan 4th Road around 12:20 AM on August 1st.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the 45-year-old driver, identified by the surname Lin, asleep at the wheel. After waking him, it became apparent he was heavily intoxicated. A breathalyzer test revealed his blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit.

Lin admitted to drinking at a hot pot restaurant and believed he could drive home. However, the alcohol's effects overwhelmed him, leading him to stop his vehicle in the middle of the fast lane and fall asleep. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and endangering public safety.

Authorities are prosecuting Lin for drunk driving, a violation that carries a maximum fine of NT$120,000 and could result in vehicle impoundment. Police emphasized the danger posed by the incident, noting that Zhongshan 4th Road is a major thoroughfare with high-speed traffic, and the stalled vehicle could have easily caused a serious collision. They reiterated the call for drivers to refrain from drinking and driving.
