Drunk driver crashes into divider in Dak Lak, still tries to keep driving

A driver who crashed into a road divider in Dak Lak allegedly tried to continue driving despite showing signs of intoxication, prompting residents to stop him at the scene.

The 57-year-old man, identified as T., was driving on Vo Nguyen Giap Street in Buon Ma Thuot at about 8:50 p.m. on September 5. His car struck the divider near the roundabout at Le Duan Street.

After the crash, residents prevented him from leaving and asked him not to drive again. They kept the scene intact while waiting for traffic police to arrive.

Police took T. to a hospital for drug and alcohol testing. The drug test was negative, but his breath-alcohol level measured about 1.34 milligrams per liter, more than three times the highest violation threshold of 0.4 milligrams per liter.

According to police, the driver is expected to face a fine of 30 million to 40 million dong and lose the right to use his driving license for 22 to 24 months.
