Drunk Man Arrested After Stealing, Assaulting Guard, Passersby, and Police in Zagreb

A 26-year-old man is facing charges after a shoplifting incident in Zagreb escalated into assaults on a security guard, two passersby, and a police officer. The incident occurred on Tuesday around 5:50 PM in a store located in the underground passage at Trg Ante Starčevića.

The suspect attempted to steal several items but was noticed by a 40-year-old security guard. When asked to return the merchandise, the man refused and proceeded to physically assault the guard, striking him on the head and body. He then fled the store, further assaulting a 23-year-old and a 26-year-old passerby who were present at the scene.

Responding police officers arrived to investigate the disturbance. During the arrest attempt, the suspect resisted violently, striking and biting one of the officers multiple times. Due to his active resistance, officers used physical force and restraints to subdue and apprehend him, bringing him to the police station for criminal investigation.

It was determined that the suspect had a blood alcohol content of 1.34 g/kg at the time of the incident. One police officer sustained minor injuries and received medical attention at the University Hospital Zagreb. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
