Drunk man attacks firefighter enforcing safety rules at popular swimming spot

A man was arrested and faces charges for assaulting a firefighter who was enforcing water safety rules at a popular swimming spot. The suspect reportedly became enraged when he saw the firefighter cautioning his colleague, who is deaf, about entering a dangerous deep-water area. Authorities emphasized that firefighters' warnings are crucial for public safety and vowed to prosecute anyone who challenges public authority or harms emergency personnel.

A 49-year-old man, identified by the surname Hsieh, was apprehended by police and is being prosecuted for obstructing official duties and assault. The incident occurred when Hsieh and his colleagues were swimming at Toad Valley in Sanxia District, New Taipei City. A firefighter from the Yingge Fengming Brigade was on duty, monitoring water safety. He approached Hsieh's colleague, who is deaf, to advise against entering a dangerous deep-water zone.

Hsieh, who had reportedly been drinking since early morning, misinterpreted the firefighter's actions as bullying towards his colleague. He became enraged, leading to a verbal altercation and a physical push. The firefighter sustained bruises to his left cheek and abrasions on his left arm. He was treated at Enzhugong Hospital and later filed a police report.
