Dubai Aims to Be Global Model of Civility Through Integrated Urban Strategy

Dubai is actively cultivating a global model of civility, moving beyond mere aesthetics to embed positive public behavior into the city's fabric. The Dubai Civility Committee, in its fifth meeting, discussed initiatives to enhance the emirate's appearance, public conduct, and overall quality of life for residents and visitors.

Central to this strategy is the development of an integrated lighting plan to strengthen Dubai's visual identity and create urban harmony. The committee also reviewed a plan for a comprehensive assessment of the city experience, aiming to set standards for what is described as the world's most civilized urban environment. Furthermore, the Dubai Civility Guidebook is being developed to establish a shared framework for public behavior and promote refined conduct in daily interactions.

We are working to develop an integrated ecosystem that elevates the human experience in Dubai and enhances quality of life, the city’s appearance, and public behaviour through impactful initiatives and projects that touch every aspect of daily life.

Mohammad Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Dubai Civility Committee, emphasized that Dubai's approach to civility is a strategic, citywide ecosystem. He stated that the vision, guided by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prioritizes people and quality of life. "We are working to develop an integrated ecosystem that elevates the human experience in Dubai and enhances quality of life, the city’s appearance, and public behaviour through impactful initiatives and projects that touch every aspect of daily life," Al Gergawi said.

The committee's work also includes guidelines for celebrating different occasions, promoting responsible and respectful public behavior. Established in September, the committee comprises senior officials from various Dubai government departments, including urban planning, the Crown Prince's office, police, economy and tourism, and the municipality, underscoring the integrated approach to advancing the emirate's civility experience.
