Dubai court declares man insolvent after he fails to pay Dhs4.2 million debt

A Dubai Civil Court has officially declared a Gulf national insolvent, marking the culmination of proceedings initiated after he failed to meet a substantial debt obligation exceeding 4.2 million UAE dirhams.

The insolvency trustee's audit confirmed the debt, with the largest portion, approximately Dhs4.216 million, owed to a private hospital. An additional debt of about Dhs18,000 was due to DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority). The court had initially accepted the debtor's request to open insolvency proceedings in February 2026, appointing a trustee to manage the process.

During the audit, it was revealed that the debtor's financial assets were severely limited. He possessed a bank balance of only about Dhs1,200 and a 2008 model car valued at approximately Dhs13,000. The insolvency trustee found no other assets that could be liquidated to cover the outstanding debts or even the legal procedure expenses.

Consequently, the court declared the debtor insolvent, terminating the proceedings after approving the list of creditors. As a measure to prevent further financial complications, he is prohibited from obtaining new loans or financing for three years, except for essential living expenses. His name has also been entered into the special register of insolvent persons, and the Al Etihad Credit Bureau has been notified of the judgment.
