Dubai millionaires, attempted murder and kidnappings: the dark files of OmegaPro’s global scam network

Romain Müller appeared on camera in February 2023 wearing an OmegaPro shirt and delivered a stark confession: “OmegaPro is a Ponzi scheme and I have the feeling that I was complicit.”

The platform had promised investors returns of 300% over 14 or 16 months. Four months earlier, it had claimed that hackers from North Korea had breached the system. Investors were already worried they would never recover their money when Müller, one of its most successful promoters, said he would reveal what he called his truth.

OmegaPro’s scheme allegedly reached millions of people in more than 40 countries. In France, about 50 “top leaders” promoted the operation, which involved a reported $4 billion pyramid structure. More than 10,000 people in the country are believed to have lost money, and nearly half have filed complaints.

A Ponzi scheme uses new investors’ money to pay attractive returns promised to earlier participants, while leaders also receive compensation for recruiting clients. The structure can continue only while money and new participants keep arriving. It ultimately collapses when that flow dries up.

A judicial investigation is open in France and is being followed by the National Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office. The case forms part of a broader examination of OmegaPro’s international network and its alleged criminal affairs, including attempted murder and kidnappings.
